First Step Expeditions

THE CLIENT

First Step Expeditions is not your typical travel company. Deeply rooted in Peru, they provide visitors with authentic and custom travel experiences that move away from the “big bus” standard, and in turn give back to the communities and economy of the region.

We partnered with First Step Expeditions to refresh their branding, overhaul their website, and introduce email into their marketing plans. Ultimately, we were able to transform a brand to showcase their story and unique approach to travel in the Peru region.

WHAT WE DID

1) Logo Refresh & Usage Guide
2) Website Strategy & Design
3) Email Newsletter

LOGO REFRESH & USAGE GUIDE

First, it was time for a logo refresh. First Steps came to us with a great homegrown logo concept, though they were having difficulties with logo readability, versatility, and usage. In short, they lacked the variations and file types needed for a professional logo package.

Not to fear! We came in with a design eye to re-examine their original concept, ultimately stripping out extraneous info and tidying up the graphic work for readability. We then created a full logo package including secondary versions, color options, and multiple file types. This ensures First Steps will have the exact logo they need for every brand piece created. Lastly, we tied the project together with a logo usage guide—setting clear standards for how their brand marks should be used, and flushing out a color palette to inform additional design needs.

WEBSITE STRATEGY & DESIGN

Site development in partnership with Beth Soderberg.

First Steps had a site already, though it was proving the source of headaches on both the back end (technical build) and the front end (user experience). In our collaboration, we overhauled the site map and streamlined navigation to ensure that within the site, a user can always get to where they’re looking to go, easily find tour info, and make purchases. In addition, we needed to highlight the brand's story and authenticity to clarify for users that their travels to Peru with First Steps would be unlike any other.

Lastly, we got their tech in order. In partnership with web developer Beth Soderberg, we rebuilt the site from scratch in WordPress to include ecommerce functionality and email integration. In the end, First Steps has a seamless and functional site that’s easy for them to update with zero need for coding.

EMAIL NEWLETTER

Most people dreaming of travel aren’t ready to book in the exact moment they discover a great company like First Steps. So to keep the potential customer engaged, provide them with valuable travel tips, and let them know when trail permits become available, we turn to email marketing.

By integrating the website with Mailchimp, we drove site visitors to sign up for emails. Lastly, we set First Steps up with a suite of branded email templates and content strategy to drive their marketing efforts.

RESULTS

“Working with House of Rebelo was such a dream. We needed help restructuring our website and whole customer experience and she really came through. From our first call, her process ensured that they really understood who we are, our business, our goals, and the message we were trying to send to our customers. They really listened to our requests and delivered quality designs with amazing attention to the smallest details. I would highly recommend them if you’re looking for ANYTHING related to design (logo, website, marketing materials). House of Rebelo can do it all and they are a pleasure to work with.”
